Erda Wood

Erda Wood

E-commerce store for handcrafted wooden products.

The Idea

Erda Wood represents a small carpentry business that sells handcrafted wooden products and offers carpentry services to customers. It is both a platform for people who are interested in purchasing individual items, as well as for people looking for a team of professional carpenters who can take on large scale projects.

Building the Brand

As the first step I had to establish the guiding principles that I felt were relevant for this brand.

Guiding Principles

Once I had an idea about the ethos this brand would represent, I went on to create a fitting logo.

Logo Design

As the final piece of the puzzle, I worked out the general design system that would bring the brand as a whole alive.

UX Design

The next step was to map out the basic user flow that contains the absolute necessary steps and features for a minimum viable product.

User Flow

With the user flow done, I created quick sketches to better visualize the end product. I then digitized my sketches and created mid-high fidelity wireframes to work out the details.

Wireframing

During the early wireframing phase, I conducted user testing on three potential users to iron out potential pain points and find the areas that needed improvement.

User Testing

Visual Design

The next step was to implement the brand design system. During this phase I also received valuable peer feedback which allowed me to polish the design.

Visual Design

After further improvements I moved on to creating mockups and presentations of the final design.

Mockups

Keeping responsiveness on larger device screens in mind was also an important aspect of this phase.

Responsive Layout

Looking into the future, I considered three main features that would really make this app stand out in the crowd.

Key Takeaways

Working on this project solidified the idea that feedback is the engine that drives good design, as well as that often the user has the best ideas. This project has taught me that in order to find the best design solutions, repeated testing and constant feedback is imperative to craft a successful design.
